The COVID-19 pandemic is quickly changing how every business is attracting, hiring, and retaining employees.
We have seen a surge of clinics hiring since the practice closures and some offices are finding that some staff members are not ready to come back to work or even some are leaving dentistry all together. The dental world as we once knew, has changed.
Hiring in the world today is not what it used to be. You need to rethink the way you have done things and it is time to get a little creative and shift from the way you have hired in the past.
Think of it this way, many practices use marketing to attract new patients to their clinic, but many don’t realize that what you are doing to promote your clinic is also being viewed by potential candidates.
Apply some of those basic marketing concepts to how you create and place your job ads. If you think about it, most of the job posts you see are just a generic post giving a brief description of what they are hiring for.
We need to change that.
You need to switch up your ad with the simple concepts of marketing. Just like you market to get new patients to come through your door – think along those same lines when advertising to potential candidates.
You need to attract potential candidates and make them want to come and work for you.
Communicate what your office is about. Show potential candidates what you do for your team and patients. Are you involved in community events? Show that! Some clinics forget the importance on showcasing the things they do in the clinic with their staff. Potential candidates want to see that!
Candidates want to know about your clinic. They will search your website, social media and even read reviews to find out more about you. Are you using social media to its full advantage? Don’t just use generic stock photos, use personalized photos so people “see” who you are and get to know you and your practice.
When hiring, you need to keep in mind that you are not the only practice that is hiring.
- What makes you different?
- What makes you stand apart from your competitor?
- Why should candidates want to come work with you instead of another clinic?
When it comes to where to post, try to think outside the box. List out all of the avenues where you can post:
- Facebook jobs
- Facebook and social media posts
- Dental job boards
- Speaking with local colleges
- Reaching out to local dental community
- Indeed etc.
Things have changed from just placing a job and waiting for all the qualified candidates to come to you.
It’s time to be creative and think outside the box.
